KASTT Bee Mission

Congratulations! If you’ve found your way here, you’re probably holding a jar of honey with the KASTT logo on it. Before you taste it, we’d love for you to know its story. Enjoy it as much as every spoonful – each one made possible by a bright idea from our team at the KASTT production plant in Svobodné Dvory.

In 2025, we proudly produced our very first 100 kilograms of honey… and we’re sure it won’t be the last. But why did we even start this beekeeping adventure?

Supporting Biodiversity

Our production facility sits on the outskirts of Hradec Králové, which is an area where nature has a tough time. Surrounded by development, a four-lane road, and industrial zones, we decided it was time to lend the environment a hand. That’s where it all began.

Beekeepers Among Us

Luckily, we didn’t have to look far for experts. Some of our colleagues are experienced beekeepers, so we knew exactly what we were getting into. Soon, more enthusiasts joined in, eager to help our new buzzing residents thrive.

A Unique Team-Building Experience

As you’ll see from our beekeeping timeline, dozens of people across departments have taken part in this project over the past two years. It’s been a rewarding challenge and one of the most memorable team-building experiences we’ve ever had.

Our Beekeeping Journey

September 2023

The idea of company beehives was born during VINCI Environment Day 2023, thanks to two of our engineers, Ondřej Burián and Jiří Olexa, both passionate beekeepers in their spare time. After a short discussion, management gave the project the green light.

November 2023

We began preparing the site for our first hives near the customer parking area. Colleagues from every part of the company lent a hand – from office staff to production workers. Special thanks go to Iveta Chrásková and Petr Martinů. The hives were given a fresh coat of signature “KASTT color” by Zdeněk Doležal.

March 2024

The team — Jiří Vejroch, Filip Polívka, and Jiří Votřel from R&D — got to work assembling frames for our future hive residents.

April 2024

We welcomed our first two colonies and watched eagerly as the bees settled into their new home.

June 2024

We expanded with two more hives — four colonies now buzzing in harmony.

July 2024

Regular hive inspections began, and we captured our first photos of life inside the apiary.

May 2025

The big moment arrived — our first honey harvest! The sweet task (a well-deserved reward) was led by Věra Čečková and Ondřej Burián.

July 2025

We continued with the summer harvest, this time with help from Věra and Barbora Behanová from the sales department. Altogether, we collected about 100 kilograms of honey in our first year.

August 2025

After the final harvest, we fed the bees sugar syrup to help them prepare for winter. Each hive received around 20 kilograms — a total of 84 kilograms of sugar this season. The bees then enjoyed a calmer period, gathering the last of nature’s offerings.

October – November 2025

We treated the colonies against mites to keep them healthy and strong for the next season. After that, the bees settled in for their well-earned winter rest until the end of March.

November 2025

At the canteen, Hanka Hlavatá got the jars ready and helped clean up after filling. Our honey gifts for customers and colleagues were packed with care and a smile — thanks to Bára, Věra, Vlasta Ulrichová, and Radka Šulcová, who made sure every package would bring joy.

What’s Next?

Our bees are looked after by Jiří Olexa, while the honey operations are managed by Ondra Burián. Looking ahead, we plan to grow our beekeeping team with another dedicated caretaker for our company hives. Wish us luck — and enjoy every drop!
